My introduction to yoga came ten years ago because of a double protrusion in my lumbar and a compressed sacrum. At that time I considered myself a 'gym rat' as well as riding my mountain bike and running 10k's. My Orthopedic told me I had to do something or I was headed for pain treatment and possibly surgery. As I thought I was already doing something, which apparently wasn't working, he suggested that I do something else.
Attending a weekend seminar for pre / post surgical back issues, continuing with a home practice and periodic visits to the ashram for weekends where I continued to learn and develop my practice, I found the answer. I gave up the gym, running and rigorous biking for something 'else': Hatha Yoga. After six months I was pain free and decided that I wanted to devote more of my time to learning the art of yoga and proceeded to do my initial teachers training.
Six years ago, due to the urging of one of my teachers, I decided to share my experience and begin teaching. Since that first day in class, I have never looked back only forward, with a passion and joy that I find in every opportunity I have to work with students, believing there is a form of yoga suitable for everyone, regardless of age or physical limitations.
In my classes, I emphasize the art of breathing, proper posture, movement in synergy, with a strong focus on a solid foundation of asana and alignment while also developing flexibility and building strength. Always offering students optional variations/adaptations of asana to suit their individual bodies and never asking them to leave their comfort zone as pain is not gain. My teaching philosophy is based on a contemporary interpretation of ancient sources without fashionable trends, while establishing a coherent discipline with therapeutic benefit.
Certified and Registered in Hatha Yoga by Yoga Alliance and the European Yoga Union, having completed 400 hours at Yoga Vidya/Sivananda in Germany, I have also added additional teachers certification and / or workshops with the following teachers: Judith Lasater (Anatomy, Relax & Renew), Desiree Rumbaugh (Insight Yoga), Gary Kraftsow (ViniYoga), Richard Rosen, Cindy Lee, Liz Franklin (Chair Yoga), Frank Jude Boccio, Tias Little & Jason Crandall. Currently studying Yoga Therapy Rx with Dr. Larry Payne at Loyola Marymount University.
Teaching Therapeutic Gentle yoga to all ages plus "Yoga as a Solution" for Boomers/Seniors, which takes you from doing yoga ….in the Chair to ….with the Chair to ….on the Mat and eventually standing, with an emphasis on prevention and independence.
Living in Europe for over a decade and studying in German has qualified me to teach in both, English and German. I have since returned to California and have established myself in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.
Yoga for me has been a personal source for a healthy lifestyle and I am happy to share my experience and knowledge with my students and hopefully soon with you!
Namaste,
